Internship Programmes are created to provide opportunities for new graduates to gain practical experience.
Experience is appropriate to the level of skills developed on degree programmes.
Graduates and employer organisations benefit from taking part in these programmes. Graduates gain fpractical work experience and employers welcome ambitious individuals into the workforce.
Cleveland Police submitted an application to Teesside University for six funded graduate intern opportunities.
Roles are in the Protecting Vulnerable People Department and will assist with research relating to victims and perpetrators.
The Police and Crime Commissioner supports these applications as research topics are aligned to priorities in the Police and Crime Plan and Commissioning Strategy.
In order for graduates and employers to gain maximum benefit from such the programme, individual projects will be provided to graduates for the scope of their internship. These projects are:
- Understanding the victim’s journey through domestic abuse. This is with a view to identifying and overcoming barriers to enable Cleveland Police, with its partners to achieve the best possible outcomes for the victim
- The effective management of Perpetrators of Domestic Abuse
Detailed aims and objectives will be provided to each intern including planned outcomes for Cleveland Police and the graduates.
Graduates’ responsibilities during the programme have been designed to ensure that the project is achievable within a 12-week time frame. Measurable outcomes are clear, making sure that their contribution can be evaluated and used for the benefit of any future work.
Graduates are employed by Teesside University during the internship and are therefore:
- Subject to University procedures and employment policies.
- Covered by the University’s Public Liability insurance during the placement
Interns are required to use their own IT equipment. They will be required to undergo police vetting. Necessary information sharing and data processing agreements will be put in place. The Force Information Security Officer has approved these arrangements.
The recruitment of internships has been managed by the University’s Human Resource Department. This was via a competitive application process to ensure the right people are assigned to the most suitable work placements.
