An Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) is a tool to identify potential discrimination as a result of a service, project, policy or practice.

It makes sure Cleveland Police and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner meet their duty to show due regard under the Equality Act.
The EIA assesses the likely (or actual) effects of projects, policies or practice as a result of people’s protected characteristics.
The assessment includes looking for opportunities to promote equality that may have been missed or could be better used.
It also looks at any negative effects, which can be removed or lessened. If any negative or adverse impacts amount to unlawful discrimination, they must be removed.
Completing an EIA is a helpful way to monitor to make sure the end product reflects inclusivity, equal opportunity and access to services.
