The Lord’s Taverners is a UK youth cricket and disability sports charity. They actively create opportunities for young people from deprived areas and those with disabilities to actively engage in sports and recreational activities within their local communities.
Wicketz is a community cohesion project which uses cricket as a catalyst to engage young people aged 8-19 experiencing deprivation and disadvantage across Hartlepool. The priority of Wicketz is to use cricket to address the local issues that are affecting the young people within those communities.
The Wicketz Hartlepool project is delivered in partnership with Durham County Cricket Board and is a well-established programme that has been running for the last five years in Brierton, Lynnfield and Mill House. They also run a dedicated girl’s hub in Seaton Carew.
The Lord’s Taverners have requested funding to continue the Wicketz project in the Hartlepool area. The programme will be offered at no cost as well as being held locally reducing any financial or transportation burden.
The funding will be used on venue hire, coaching costs and a lifestyle workshop which will include topics on crime and anti-social behaviour.
