A recent Energy Assessment of the PFI Estate has been completed.
The energy assessment involved a review of facilities and all significant energy consuming areas within the sites. It also included an assessment of plant and equipment.
This assessment has outlined recommendations for reducing energy costs and consumption.
The sites above the “Good Practice” benchmark for electricity consumption in buildings of this type by reference to published CIBSE benchmarks.
With support from the PFI Board using lifecycle funding, the Home Office and the Office of the PCC, the following energy saving strategies have already been completed:
- Installation of voltage optimisers to control voltage peaks and troughs;
- Installation of LED lighting to external areas and corridors;
- Linkage of office heating and cooling systems to lighting PIRs.
From the survey we have identified further opportunities to reduce energy consumption on site.
The offices pre-dominantly use a mixture of 600×600 recessed 14W T8 multi-tube (2 lamp, 3 lamp & 4 lamp) fluorescent fittings and 600×600 recessed 24W PLL twin lamp units.
The 600×600 recessed units can be replaced with LED panels of similar output. This will deliver energy saving in the region of £15,000 per year. Work is expected to cost £125k.
