CURV is one of 20 violence reduction units across the UK committed to reducing – and ultimately preventing – serious violence. It is located within the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland.
CURV stands for ‘Cleveland Unit for the Reduction of Violence’.
Established in 2022, the partnership takes a joined-up, preventative approach to tackling serious violence.
Partners work together on long-term strategies to reduce serious violence across Cleveland.
CURV’s main purpose is to provide leadership and strategic coordination of Cleveland’s response to serious violence.
Staff at CURV take the lead role in bringing local organisations together, including Cleveland Police, public health teams and local hospital trusts.
Our Vision
CURV’s vision is for individuals, families and communities to live, learn and work in Cleveland free from the fear, effects and consequences of serious violence.
How will CURV approach its work?
CURV has four guiding principles to the way, in which it works to reduce serious crime and violence across Cleveland:
- An inclusive – or “with and for” – approach to all of its work with communities
- A whole system approach, which promotes joint and partnership working, as well as a problem-solving approach
- A sustainable approach, which aims to invest in Cleveland’s capacity. It does this by strengthening existing structures and services as well as harnessing assets already present in the community
- A trauma-informed approach. That means we are open about what we are doing and why we are doing it. It also means that we aren’t just looking at the problems. We find out why they happened in the first place – and what individuals and communities need to resolve them
