Monthly scrutiny Meetings provide a platform for the PCC to hold the Chief Constable to account for the running of the force.
At these meetings, the PCC scrutinises and challenges police performance.
Subject matter experts are invited to attend monthly scrutiny meetings to provide evidence on key lines of questioning and enquiry.
Through its various scrutiny approaches and assurance processes, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) can ‘reality check’ evidence presented by the force.
Assurance
Following consideration of the evidence at each scrutiny meeting, the PCC decides whether he is:
- Assured;
- Partly assured; or
- Not assured
by the information provided.
Depending on the outcome of each meeting, the PCC identifies what action is required.
OPCC staff record and monitor the implementation of these actions. This enables the PCC to maintain a “watching brief” on primary areas of focus.
